Funchal is a name that denotes tradition and is part of history, not only for those who had the opportunity to enjoy a cruise but also because it was the bearer of notable figures on more than one occasion. It has also carried the ashes of Emperor Pedro I of Portugal when Brazil commemorated its 150 years of independence, a former Portuguese colony. The information presented here was mostly extracted from maritime historian Reuben Goosens.
